Pukeko at Army Bay 31-10-08

Pukekos are very common in New Zealand and like marshy areas with reeds, so are often found near ponds and drainage ditches. They are omnivores and a type of Rail native to Australasia. The body is usually a little larger than that of a chicken. They mainly walk, but will swim and fly.
